James A. “Jay” Yankey
State Young Farmers' Committee Chairman
Prince William County vegetable producer James A. “Jay” Yankey of Nokesville was elected to a two-year term as chairman of the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmer Committee in December 2008.
Yankey has served on the Young Farmer Committee as a co-vice chair and co-chair for Farm Bureau’s Northern District, representing young producers in the counties of Clarke, Culpeper, Fairfax, Fauquier, Frederick, Loudoun, Madison, Prince William, Rappahannock, Shenandoah, Stafford and Warren.
He also has served on the Prince William-Fairfax Farm Bureau board of directors for the past seven years.
Yankey and his wife, Sonja, own and operate Yankey Farms, a 15-acre direct-market vegetable operation. They grow sweet corn, tomatoes, melons, pumpkins and bedding plants that they sell at their two farm markets.
Yankey also owns and operates a custom agricultural service business that provides mowing, seeding and fertilizer and chemical application services to more than 80 clients in Northern Virginia.
