Augusta County boasts more farm acreage than any other Virginia county, with 1,691 farms on 306,048 acres.
It ranks second in the state for farm income, with cash receipts totaling $143.9 million.
Located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, Augusta is also among the state’s top 10 in beef cattle and poultry production, and is No. 1 in the production of beef cattle. Augusta County has more than 105,000 head of beef cattle.
The county is also one of the state’s largest poultry producers.
The expansive county, which surrounds the cities of Staunton and Waynesboro, is a mainstay of agriculture, boasting the Museum of American Frontier Culture, which features four 18th and 19th century working farms that produce livestock and crops as they were raised during the early settling of the Shenandoah Valley.
